About Us

Established in 2019, Lola’s Coney Island is sure to unite all hot dog lovers. Owner-operator Jesse Fakhoury is the force behind Lola’s, named after his four-year-old daughter. Jesse was born and raised in Detroit, MI where the Coney Island hot dog is a hometown favorite. After years of living in Chicago, Jesse saw the opportunity to bring the Michigan staple to the people of Chicago who know a thing or two about a good hot dog. Trying to follow the footsteps of his favorite Southwest Detroit Coney, Duly's.

The Detroit style Coney Island

In Detroit, historically many Greek and Macedonian immigrants operated Coney islands, or restaurants serving Detroit Coney dogs. By 2012 many Albanians began operating them as well. The Greeks established Onassis Coney Island, which has closed. Greek immigrants established the Coney chains Kerby's Koney Island, Leo's Coney Island, and National Coney Island during the 1960s and early 1970s. All three chains sell some Greek food items with Coney dogs. Detroit style sauce is a bean-less chili sauce, differing from the chili dogs they offer only in the lack of beans. National has most of its restaurants on the east side of the city, and Kerby's and Leo's have the bulk of their restaurants on the west side of the Detroit area. At Lola's, you can find Jesse’s favorite - the National Coney Island Chilli.

At Lola's, our main goal is to please the population of Michigan transplants that yearns for the coneys of home, but as hot dog lovers, we love them all, which is why we offer well-executed Chicago-style dogs supplied by Vienna Beef as well as a New York-style dogs (sauerkraut, onions, brown mustard). And if a hot dog is not what you looking for, we also offer hamburgers, wraps, salads, rib-eye sandwiches, a lobster roll, and soup. And without forgetting our vegetarian friends, we offer plenty of options, all with the quality of Beyond Meat®, Beyond Chicken®, and Impossible Burger.

But we will never forget our roots - the original Detroit-style sausage: natural casing beef and pork franks from National Coney Island, which also supplies the chili. You will not be disappointed.
